Every New Year’s Eve: the total on a strip of masking tape, and a note in the jar. All fifteen of them.
Every New Year’s Eve they tipped the jar out on the kitchen table and counted it together. Dee wrote the total on a strip of masking tape and stuck it on the lid. Then she wrote a note on whatever was nearest, and it went in the jar with the money.
